I am actually pretty impressed with these earrings, if I may say so myself. I sat down the other night and decided just to start making something and see where it ended up - no plan just pure inspiration and see where I landed. I had made a pair of earrings out of heavy gauge bronze phosphor wire and carnelian stones which I loved but which did not function properly. Something was off with the design because the bottoms kept flipping up. So I sat down with those in mind and grabbed the 20 gauge Argentium sterling silver wire and cut two identical length pieces - about 3 1/2" each. I hammered the tips and rolled them up in front - originally thinking I would dangle something off the ends.
But then I started wrapping the 24 gauge dead soft sterling wire around the wires and then it hit me - a tiny stone bead would look awesome in the front. I love love love anything green and Aventurine has that sometimes blue, sometimes green with a tinge of yellow glow like faeries wings. The first one turned out amazing and now the trick was to simply repeat the same technique on the other earring. Easier said than done, but they're darned close.
I've decided that it's ok to have minor differences in the exact number of wraps and the angle of the bead that's wired on, etc., from one earring to the other. After all, this is a hand made piece, not something produced on an assembly line by a machine in mass quantities. So if a little of my idiosyncrasies end up in the mix, so be it. And I must say, these are fabulosity on a stick!! They are at once minimalist, sexy as hell, elegant, and so comfortable you can forget you even have them on. It's 100% this one, and one I'm likely to repeat with different stones and metals.
